His legislative record includes sponsoring the High Risk Terrorism Prevention Initiative of 2006 and the Federal Agency Data Privacy Protection Act, reflecting his dedication to national security and public welfare.
Sweeney’s political acumen shines through his pivotal roles in all three of President Donald J. Trump’s presidential campaigns. In 2016, as New York counsel, he ensured election law compliance and guided delegate selection, later serving as deputy counsel to safeguard Trump’s electoral wins in Wisconsin and Michigan during Green Party-led recounts backed by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. As a member of Trump’s 2016 transition team “Tiger Team,” Sweeney vetted over 300 candidates for senior federal roles, including ambassadorships. In 2020, he bolstered Trump’s re-election efforts with his election law expertise, and in 2024, he played a key role in Trump’s landslide victory, cementing his status as a trusted advisor.
Prior to Congress, Sweeney served as New York State’s Labor Commissioner under Governor George Pataki, overseeing a $733 million budget and 5,100 employees.
